THE SCIFEN CO. X ELZHI
KEVIN PORTER
Sorry for the lack of updates lately. I’ve been in serious grind mode trying to wrap up our Fall 2012 collection. However, we still make time for folk to slide through the office. This past week, we had the pleasure of meeting Kevin Porter through our friend Aaron Nardi, who is filming KP for an upcoming project. If you want an idea of what the video will be about, then you need to get familiar with Kevin Porter. This should do the job…
THE WAY OF NO WAY
I’ve known my good friend, Reza Moazezi, for almost 18 years, and ever since we first met, he has been extremely passionate and dedicated to studying martial arts. As a true practitioner of the art form, he quickly became frustrated with all the half ass martial art schools and methods across town. Let’s face it, the average karate class now a days is like an after school day care activity for suburban kids across the country. It’s far from it’s ancient roots that date back to 400 B.C. However, there are those who seek to carry on tradition and sever the art form in it’s truest form. For almost 15 years, Reza has dreamed about doing exactly that with his own school. This past month, it all became a reality with the opening of The Way Of No Way.
Reza has really stepped out of the box and did so all the way down to the design of his school. It’s something you need to see for yourself.
You better guard your grill….
cause one of these might fly in your face.
Congrats Reza and Happy Birthday!
POE ONE
As some of you know, my foundation is deeply rooted in b-boying and in many ways it shaped who I am today. This past week, I had a nice visit from a long time friend, B-Boy Poe One. Poe One has been a mentor and inspiration to many in the b-boy community for well over 20 years. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, well if that is so, then Poe One should be a very flattered individual. His style and approach has been imitated by many over the years, and for good reason. He is one of the illest and is still running circles around people half his age.
Here is a quick solo I found online from a judges showcase at an event back in 2009. Enjoy.
HAIRROIN ADDICT
Back in 2008, our office and store front was located in Hollywood at the corner of Cahuenga and Selma. It was and still is an up and coming area for retail and dining. One of the best things in the area was our neighbors at the Hairroin Salon.
Here is the mastermind herself, Janine Jarman, getting a quick touch up from one of her lovely master stylists, Dalina Rebolla. Aside from being the coolest group of ladies around, they are some of the most hardworking at what they do. Janine has her hands full these days getting ready to move her salon into an amazing new location across the street at Space 15 Twenty. Congrats Janine!
ELZHI PHOTOSHOOT
Yesterday, our friend Elzhi stopped by our office to do a photoshoot for a special Fall Two Lookbook. Here are few behind the scenes flicks from the shoot. Be on the lookout for the upcoming “Elzhi x The Scifen Co. Lookbook” as well as upcoming projects from Elzhi.
MADDIX AND DITA
My pups Maddix and Dita come to the office sometimes to help out and bring tranquility to our hectic days here.
IT COULD BE WORSE
Happy Monday! Just remember that things could always be worse. For example, you could be this guy, so be happy you are not.
(I can’t believe this guy did this for over 2-minutes)
THE PROTOCOL VEST.
The Protocol Vest is a highlight piece from our Fall 2011 collection. It’s a maritime inspired vest made out of a cotton and nylon blended shell and lined with a cotton flannel for that extra warmth. The piece features military style buttons and a unique quilting pattern. A classic heritage piece.
STARTING THE DAY RIGHT
This morning myself and Barmak decided to get breakfast over at Gram & Papa’s. Barmak had the tortilla and egg breakfast and I had the veggie scramble with wheat toast and black beans on the side. No coffee for us this morning, strictly watermelon juice to start the day right.
